UPDATE: 01/09/2021 - a new version of this Update 2 patch has been pushed today. Here is the delta update (rest is the same as the original update)

(2021-09-01)

Important Note

  1. DSM 6.2.4-25556-2 is updated on September 1 to fixes the issues below.
  • Fixed an issue where the Synology Account sign-in status at Control Panel > QuickConnect was incorrectly shown as not signed in.
  • Fixed an issue where exFAT Access package installation might fail.
  • Fixed an issue where users couldn't use SSH transfer encryption for Shared Folder Sync tasks.
  • Fixed an issue where Active Insight might not be able to automatically collect and transfer diagnostic data when users submitted technical support forms.

UPDATE: 21/08/2021 - This update has been pulled due to a problem with QuickConnect status. QC will work, but you will get the "Sign in to or sign up for a Synology Account" message where your QC email should be. If you have already patched, you will have to wait for a new update that will fix this.

Today (17/08/2021) Synology pushed out a new "update 2" version for their DSM 6.2.4-25556 patch. Remember this was the patch that fixed a number of problems with the 25554 version, and in the end, replaced that whole release.

So right out the gate, you will have to be on version 25556 to be able to update to this update 2 increment. Also, if you want to update, you will have to do it manually via the Control Panel > Update & Restore and putting in the PAT file for your NAS model.

Next, we need to focus on two things here. This update will allow you to use your DSM 6 NAS and connect it to Synology Active Insight platform. Rolled out as one of the DSM 7 flag features (and exclusive) it is interesting to see Synology allowing DSM 6 system to get hooked into it.

To activate AI support for your DSM 6.2.4 UP2  go to DSM Support Center > Active Insight, and then Enable Active Insight.

NOTE: The Active Insight service requires a Synology Account. If you have not signed in to a Synology Account on your Synology NAS or do not have one, a pop-up window will guide you to sign in to or sign up for a Synology Account.

There are limitations when it comes to using AI with your NAS on DSM 6:

  1. Minimum version required: DSM 6.2.4 - 25556 Update 2
  2. Synology Active Insight is not available for the following models:
  • Physical models:
    RS812, RS411, RS212, DS710+, DS413, DS413j, DS411slim, DS411, DS411j, DS216se, DS214se, DS213+, DS213, DS213air, DS212+, DS212, DS212j, DS211+, DS211, DS211j, DS119j, DS115j, DS112+, DS112, DS112j, DS111, NVR1218, NVR216
  • Virtual DSM

The question still remains how much will AI cost in the end once it gets rolling.

Also, you noticed that this changelog is quite long. With 30 fixes and several new features, it is obvious that DSM 6 is not going anywhere any time soon.

Do note that fixes 29 and 30 are security vulnerabilities, and the last one is a fresh one on top of it all (at the moment of writing this article it is still an open case for DSM 7 systems). So be sure to patch up as soon as you can!

From my testing, there are no visible problems with this version at the moment but also note you will have to update several packages (if you are running with them) to be compliant with this version.
