With this year's CES in full swing, looks like Synology is moving forward with its Bee lineup.
Just at the end of October 2024, we got a glimpse of a potential new BeeStation model dubbed BST170-8T.
Synology has decided to unveil this new model today during CES's opening days. As suspected a few months ago by the BSM packages flagged as "geminilake" it was suspected that the new model might arrive with an Intel Celeron J4125 CPU. That information turned out to be true.
We also discussed that, unlike the current BeeStation, this BeeStation Plus as it's called, might come with more RAM. This is also true, as the Plus model now comes with 4GB of DDR4 RAM making it a nice upgrade.
The new BeeStation Plus comes has 8 TB of storage. This is double the amount from the previous generation and while still in a single drive configuration, another welcome hardware boost.
The enclosure is identical, hence there is no room for another drive inside it, and this also means that the ports on the back are a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-A and one type-C port. Finally, the device still has a 1GbE network adapter and no wifi capabilities, unlike the BeeDrive portable device.
The price and arrival date are still unknown, but it is safe to say that we will see it before the end of the first quarter of 2025.
