💡
UPDATE: 26/08/2024 - Update 7.2.2-72803 has been released today, more into in the article.

The last DSM 7.2 update was 7.2.1 back in September of 2023. In the meantime, five incremental updates have arrived.

New Synology DSM 7.2.1 OS is our with some small changes to the system and a few security patches

What is expected is the new version of 7.2, specifically the DSM 7.2.2. With no official date as of yet, the new version should arrive sometime in Q3, and the latest by the end of the year.

Following their usual stage rollout process, we can expect the new version to hit first in the East (TW, HK, JP, etc), while the US, EU, and the rest of the world follow about a month later.

Of course, we will all be able to manually update to the new version on day 1, but it would be best to wait and see what exact changes are coming and how will this affect us as users.

While on the topic of changes, there is no official news apart from some Synology support feedback that the new Docker version will arrive to replace the deprecated and unsupported one that is currently part of the DSM 7.2.1.

Also, we might see some package changes/updates, as usual as well as functional and security fixes. Speaking of packages, since DSM 7, Synology has been known to deprecate or combine some functionalities (especially 3rd party apps), so with each "minor" or "major" version it is always recommended to not rush with DSM updates.

As always, be sure to read the release notes carefully before hitting the update button. The official downgrade is not supported, and while it might be possible it is always the last resort.
