Synology Bee products powered by Acronis True Image Essential
For those unfamiliar with Synology's SOHO Bee lineup, the BeeDrive and BeeStation are recent additions to the company's product range, designed to serve small teams, individual users, and mobile professionals.

These devices are available in various models and capacities and are powered by Synology's BSM operating system. Built on a streamlined version of the popular DSM, BSM revolves around two core applications.
With either device, users have multiple options for backing up their endpoint device files; however, they do not support full bare-metal recovery of the entire system in case of a critical failure.
In contrast, users of the Synology NAS lineup (such as DS, RS, or other models) benefit from this capability through the use of the Active Backup for Business tool.

Since the Bee devices do not run the same OS and do not support Active Backup for Business, Synology has partnered with Acronis to offer a complimentary 3-year subscription to their True Image Essential backup platform.
Easily back up your entire computer or just the files that matter most to your BeeStation or BeeDrive. Restore your system in just a few clicks — whether it’s the same computer, a new one or even a different model

How to activate this offer?
To activate this offer, users of any Bee device (available in selected markets) will see a gift icon within the BeeDrive or BeeStation user interface. Following the prompts, the code will be received within a few minutes, which can then be redeemed on the Acronis license portal.

Accepting the offer involved a lenghty terms and conditions contract, that is presented here in full.

The whole process needes to be done using a Synology Account, so by accesing the Beestation via a local account effectivly bypassing the Bee portal, we will not be able to activate the license.

Activation of Acronis licence
Now that we have the license, we can log into the Acronis portal and add the presented key to get access to the True Image Essential package.

In the upper right corner, we can click the Add keys button that will allow us to copy the key and finally activate the product.

What if I have multiple BeeStation/BeeDrive devices?
If multiple devices are involved, the activation process remains the same. The only difference is during activation within the Acronis portal, where the system will detect an existing Essential subscription and present two options for the user.

Option one allows extending the 3-year subscription to a 6-year term under the same Acronis account or transferring the second license to another account. Once the activation process is complete, users can click the Download button to obtain the macOS or Windows installation files, as described in step 3.
Protect your backups from ransomware. If your computer is attacked, you can easily restore your files and system, keeping your data safe and your work running smoothly
How to use Acronis True Image?
Synology has documented both the backup and restore procedures in its knowledge base articles and YouTube video, so reiterating this straightforward process in this article is unnecessary.

Backup steps using Acronis True Image with Beestation

Restore process via Acronis
Considering that the Acronis Essential plan typically costs €49.99 per year for up to five devices, this 3-year offer from Synology effectively provides around €30 worth of backup service for a single device. More than the price, it’s the value of the official integration and support with a popular third-party backup platform that’s noteworthy.
This move is strategic, offering customers peace of mind and a reliable backup solution. Nonetheless, it’s important to remember that both the BeeDrive and BeeStation are single-drive models. Maintaining an additional backup copy of the data would be a prudent long-term strategy.
