Synology HAT3320 Plus series NAS drives

With summer in full swing, Synology has, for the moment, completed its X25 NAS rollout. Over the past few months, a total of eight new "plus" models have been refreshed, although few significant upgrades have been made.

All models have had their outdated 1GbE LAN interfaces upgraded to 2.5GbE. However, most retain the same specifications as their predecessors, with the exception of a few models.

In addition to these NAS models, which have been effectively restricted to work exclusively with Synology-branded drives, the company is also continuing to update its disk lineup. This includes the "plus" HAT3300 series.

Specifically, the HAT3320 model. The inaugural model of this series is the popular 8TB version (HAT3320-8T).

Current HAT3300 series lineup (2025, August)

When compared to the HAT3310-8T model, the HAT3320 has received several upgrades. While it remains a 7200 RPM drive, its maximum transfer speed has increased from the 260 MB/s of the HAT3310 model to 281 MB/s, aligning it with the 12TB and 16TB models.

The new HAT3320 model is not Helium-sealed like the larger models. However, it stands out as the first in the 3300 lineup to feature a workload rating of 300 TB per year. For reference, all current HAT3300 or HAT3310 models are rated at 180 TB per year, marking a 40% increase in annual data read and write capability.

HAT3320 8TB specifications

The warranty for the HAT3320 remains unchanged at 3 years. A notable change, however, is in power consumption. As anticipated, there has been a slight increase compared to the previous 8TB generation. The drive's power consumption in idle mode has risen from 5.61 W to 5.74 W, and during average read/write operations, it has increased from 8.41 W to 9.07 W. This represents a 2% to 7% difference, which is minimal but still present.

The price and availability of the HAT3320 are currently unknown, as it is not yet listed on major retail sites or the official Synology Store. However, we can expect a rollout in the near future.
