Synology DSM Enterprise 1.0
Today, Synology released its new flagship appliance, part of a brand new PAS series, the PAS7700.

While considerable discussion has surrounded this model in recent years, today marks its global release. The operating system, on the other hand, remained undisclosed until launch.
DSM Enterprise 1.0
Synology has a history of developing systems derived from existing platforms, and this case is no exception. The company created a dedicated version based on the new DSM 7.4 (7.4-101151), called DSM Enterprise 1.0. While visually identical to the standard release, it includes specialized packages and compatibility optimized for the AMD EPYC-based appliance.

The primary distinction between Enterprise and non-Enterprise DSM versions lies in licensing. DSM Enterprise operates on a subscription model, requiring users to maintain an active license to receive software updates for DSM Enterprise and other Synology packages after purchase.

What does that mean exactly? Once a license expires, the PAS7700 system continues operating normally, but DSM and package updates become unavailable. Licenses are available through Synology or authorized resellers in various durations (1, 3, 7 years, etc.) and are managed through DSM ENT Control Panel.
The initial DSM Enterprise release includes standard business packages, with productivity tools like Mail, Drive, Chat, Office, and others, coming in future updates.

The initial DSM Enterprise 1.0 installation includes a limited set of packages. While most are familiar to Synology users, some, such as Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup, install post-setup. The remainder primarily consists of support packages for file and storage management, DSM authentication, multi-factor authentication, and related functions.

The primary distinction in DSM Enterprise packages is the new Continuous Availability Manager. Since PAS appliances feature dual-controller architecture, this module enables monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting of the system.

From block storage to file services, DSM Enterprise keeps data flowing with intelligent load balancing and multi-layered resiliency. Featuring the Continuous Availability Manager, DSM Enterprise has everything your team needs to deploy and scale tier-1 data services

PAS systems maintain redundancy across all software and hardware layers, enabling uninterrupted firmware, OS, and application updates without dedicated maintenance windows, ensuring continuous business operations.
In the event of issues, established DSM modules like Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup maintain data accessibility and service availability.
Application, system, and firmware updates are applied without interruption to data or application services in DSM Enterprise. Stop scheduling downtime and start maintaining without maintenance windows
Maximize continuity with Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup to recovery and backup locations
DSM Enterprise protects your business with integrated support for onsite, offsite, and cloud backups, replication, and immutable snapshots. Safeguard all of your data with enterprise-grade resilience at every layer
The PAS7700 supports 1.65PB of raw storage when combined with seven expansion units. DSM Enterprise adds inline and post-process deduplication alongside smart tiering, enabling the appliance to achieve a total capacity of 8.25PB of storage.
DSM Enterprise supports both inline and post-precess deduplication
With built-in deduplication, DSM Enterprise helps keep your data center footprint lean and light. Store more data in smaller spaces with inline and post-process deduplication, thin provisioning, and space-efficient snapshots
DSM Enterprise is no doubt a familiar operating system with standard business and security features required by modern organizations, but it is exclusively available for PAS series appliances and cannot be installed on other models.
Also, DSM Enterprise currently lacks Active Backup for Business, which is expected since the PAS series functions as an active-active block and file appliance rather than a backup device. Backup responsibilities are handled by the DP (DataProtect) series, released in late 2024 and throughout 2025.

Because of this, the DSM Enterprise will remain exclusive to PAS devices, while standard DSM continues to serve the DS/RS lineup. It is clear that Synology's new operating system targets enterprise customers with the PAS7700 appliance, with additional features and applications, both familiar and new, expected in future versions.
